Admin Dashboard

ABOUT

Since 1999, Cornerstone OnDemand has adapted their software in 43 languages and is used by over 30+ million people in 191 countries to help organizations to recruit, train and manage people.

MY ROLE

Summer of 2017, I worked at Cornerstone as the Product Design Intern. I worked on the Admin Dashboard for the duration of the summer. It was a new feature but no UX work had been done prior. It needed a redesign, as barely any users actually used the feature.

PROCESS : USER FEEDBACK

I showed the current screen to users — admins, managers, business process owners (BPO), or anyone who was responsible for an organization’s high level administration.

Largely, people did not see the value of the feature, and I would argue its because its hidden.

For example, the description for each tile is wordy, and the image of each tile is vague. The significance of each tile is unclear. It’s also unclear for the users, which feature would benefit them.

“How do these insights help me?” “Where do I begin?”

PROCESS : IDEATIONS

For each iteration, I created new graphics to better represent the features provided, as well as making them visually coherent. For each tile, I also changed the wording to better communicate the feature. Furthermore I reordered and grouped the features into three categories: Compliance, Mobility, and Learning. Lastly, I provided context to the page by addressing the user, “John, how is your company doing?”

PROCESS : FINAL TOUCHES

I tested these iterations with users. And overall, the users liked the redesign. But a common feedback that I heard was that they wanted to personalize the page even further. They would only use a few of the features, and just wanted to see them!

Refining a bit more, we ended with this final design.

The tiles are organized by categories, and the users can click “Learn” to understand the value proposition of each category. Users can now also access their favorite tiles on the top of the screen.

RESULTS

Cornerstone OnDemand plans to add more features / tiles to this page; with the current design, its extendable to do so. The final design was in development when my internship ended.
